Thursday, September 5, 2013

According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this West Nile virus season has been less severe than 2012. Last year was the deadliest year on record in the United States for West Nile virus, but education and awareness are hopefully helping bring those numbers down. West Nile virus is spread to humans by infected mosquitoes.

Below are West Nile virus statistics that have been reported to the CDC as of August 27, 2013.

  • WNV has been reported in birds or mosquitoes in 45 states.
