Pest Diseases Detected Early in the Year

Many pests such as rodents and ticks have the potential to spread diseases to humans. Although it is only the first week of spring, several pest-related illnesses are already being seen.

Health officials in California have reported flea-borne typhus in a person, Hantavirus in a mouse, and West Nile virus in a bird. According to officials, this is the earliest that West Nile virus has been found but the findings of typhus and Hantavirus are not out of the ordinary.
