Cockroaches live around the world and especially thrive in warmer weather. Their impact on humans is serious, given their effects on health. Cockroaches are known to cause allergic reactions and trigger asthma attacks, especially in children. They also spend nearly 33 kinds of bacteria including E. coli and Salmonella. To prevent a cockroach infestation, it’s best to keep a meticulously clean home, especially the kitchen and bathrooms.
Wipe down counters and vacuum floors frequently. Wash dishes regularly instead of letting them pile up in the sink. Transfer open boxed food items from cardboard into sturdy, sealed containers. Avoid leaving out pet food – believe it or not, these leftovers are sources of food for cockroaches. Store trash in a tightly sealed receptacle and take it out frequently. It’s also best to reduce moisture by repairing leaks, installing a dehumidifier in damp spaces and sealing all entrances around utility pipes. If cockroaches are present in the home, partner with a licensed pest control professional to properly handle the infestation.
