White House to Help Pollinators

FAIRFAX, Va. (June 24, 2014) – President Obama recently released a memorandum announcing the creation of a Pollinator Health Task Force. The aim of this task force is to help prevent the decline of bees, butterflies and other pollinators important to the food supply.

Managed beehives are important for the growth of fruits, nuts, vegetables and plants that people consume every day. The President notes that without an action plan to sustain pollinator populations, the decline will have an increasingly adverse effect on the economy and the environment.

Homeowners can plant bee-friendly gardens on their property to help feed and support local managed hives. However, it is necessary to use caution around these insects as they may sting if threatened.
