Ticks in the News
FAIRFAX, Va. (January 31, 2014) – Ticks are seeing a recent rise in coverage across the country for several different reasons. In Alaska, a state previously thought to be tick-free, researchers are not only discovering native species but also an increasing number of established invasive species.
A little further south, in Washington, a recent survey of local tick populations shows that some carry the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease – an illness once limited to the Northeast.
And in colder parts of the country, scientists are evaluating how the recent freezing temperatures may affect this year’s tick populations.
