Tick-Borne Disease on the Rise

FAIRFAX, Va. (May 28, 2014) – Once only seen in a small area of the Northeast, Lyme disease is now present in almost every region of the United States. The spread of pests increases as travel among people becomes easier and more common.

But Lyme disease isn't the only health risk from ticks that is becoming more prevalent. Cases of Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Heartland virus, both named for the areas where they were first discovered, are now reported coast to coast.

Awareness of this pest as a health threat is the first step in preventing disease. Tips for preventing tick bites are easy for families to implement after spending time outdoors.
