The Spread of Dengue Fever

FAIRFAX, Va. (November 24, 2013) – We reported last week about the presence of Dengue fever-carrying mosquitoes being found in the United States, as well as reported cases of the tropical disease in Florida. A recent update yesterday brings this threat to the Northeast as well.

A man on Long Island is confirmed to have had the first ever case of Dengue fever contracted in New York State. The diagnosis came after the man had already recovered, but the presence of the disease so far north is alarming.
