The Cost of West Nile Virus

FAIRFAX, Va. (February 10, 2014) – According to a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), hospitalizations and follow-up health care expenses related to West Nile virus accumulated to approximately $788 million in the United States over the past 14 years.

Although the effects of West Nile virus, a disease transmitted by mosquitoes, vary widely per person, this figure is higher than previously estimated.
