Termite Prevention Can Go a Long Way

FAIRFAX, Va. (April 17, 2013) – The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) celebrates April as National Pest Management Month and encourages homeowners to pest-proof the home against termites – a destructive pest that usually begins to swarm in early spring.

Dr. Jim Fredericks, director of technical services for the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), told the Washington Post that when young adult termites emerge en masse there could be thousands of them in a colony. Worse, he added, “You never know how many are feeding on your house.”

When pest-proofing this spring, homeowners should pay special attention to excessive moisture around the property, leaking rain gutters, rotting wood and mud tubes.
