Rodents Causing Problems Following Hurricane Sandy

FAIRFAX, Va. (February 22, 2013) – At the height of Hurricane Sandy, New York City residents wondered what would happen to the subway rat population. Some believed the rats would be displaced by floodwaters and immediately start seeking harborage and food, while others thought the rodents would likely be killed during the Superstorm. 

However, four months later, these rats are beginning to resurface and pose problems for businesses and homeowners. Here are two examples of recent rodent infestations in the city:

In addition to rats, experts warn flood and storm-ravaged areas can expect to experience greater contact with bed bugs, termites and flies due in large part to population displacement, as well as increased moisture.
