Positive for West Nile Virus

FAIRFAX, Va. (May 9, 2014) – With mosquitoes emerging comes the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile virus. Mosquitoes spread several diseases, but West Nile is one of the most common in the United States

State health departments periodically capture and test mosquito samples to gauge the presence of disease. Recently, Texas and California have reported finding mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus.

Consumers can help reduce mosquito populations in their areas by emptying containers of standing water on their properties where these pests lay their eggs.
