Pest Diseases Detected Early in the Year

FAIRFAX, Va. (March 24, 2014) – Many pests such as rodents and ticks have the potential to spread diseases to humans. Although it is only the first week of spring, several pest-related illnesses are already being seen.

Health officials in California have reported flea-borne typhus in a person, Hantavirus in a mouse, and West Nile virus in a bird. According to officials, this is the earliest that West Nile virus has been found but the findings of typhus and Hantavirus are not out of the ordinary.
