Pest Control Among Fastest Growing Occupations

FAIRFAX, Va. (December 13, 2012) – In a down economy, pest control is a growing business – and the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) sees a bright future ahead for job seekers in the industry. The NPMA said the number of pest control workers is expected to increase by 26.1 percent from 2010 to 2020, citing figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In addition, turnover rates have decreased and average pay has risen within the last five years.

The BLS attributes the growth to more people using professional pest control services rather than do-it-yourself measures, and to population growth, particularly in the South where pests are more pervasive year-round.

The NPMA encourages those interested in a career within the pest control industry to consider the opportunities available to them such as a competitive salary, a variety of jobs and the necessary training offered through individual companies. The NPMA offers ongoing certification and training programs.
