NASA Combats Bugs

FAIRFAX, Va. (December 5, 2013) – A group of NASA researchers called the ‘ bug team’ is working on ways to keep airplanes windshields and wings bug-free. When planes encounter swarms of insects in the air, the bug guts can create drag, resulting in higher fuel costs over time.

The experimental coatings performed well in tests, but are a long way from practical application on commercial planes.
