Is Mosquito Season Already Underway?
FAIRFAX, Va. (February 20, 2013) – While many people are delighted that this has been another mild winter, the higher-than-normal temperatures across select parts of the country, especially the west coast, are starting to have an effect on pest populations such as mosquitoes. In fact, the recent warm weather in California's North Valley has already brought out this blood-sucking pest.
As a result, officials across the United States have started taking the necessary steps to prepare for another potentially dangerous West Nile virus season. In Dallas, the County Commissioners Court recently approved a $350,000 contract to provide 24 additional mosquito traps each week, along with mosquito spraying services for 5,000 miles each year. Meanwhile, residents in Riverside, CA will get a second chance to vote whether they want to pay a small annual fee to improve mosquito control services.
