Diseases Are Year-Round Risk

FAIRFAX, Va. (January 18, 2014) – Summer pests get a lot of press for their ability to spread diseases such as West Nile virus and Lyme disease, but the risk of pest-borne illness as a whole does not decrease with the temperature.

Winter pests like rodents, nuisance wildlife and cockroaches can also pass on a slue of other illnesses, including Hantavirus, rabies, Salmonella and can even trigger asthma and allergies. Sealing cracks or voids in siding and walls, trimming branches back from the house, inspecting delivered packages for hitchhiking pests, eliminating moisture buildup and maintaining a clean and clutter-free home will help deter pests from coming inside.
