Crickets Invading Nevada
FAIRFAX, Va. (July 3, 2014) – Insects known as Mormon crickets are starting to appear in the Nevada desert. They last appeared from 2000 to 2008 during a period of draught.
The crickets are known to be destructive to crops, but it's unsure if this is the beginning of another infestation. There have been drought conditions in the area for about three years.
Something unique about Mormon crickets is that when there is a lack of protein for them to eat, they turn on each other for food.
