Bed Bug Hot Spots

FAIRFAX, Va. (July 10, 2013) – The warm summer weather encourages exploration of new places, but be careful about what you could bring home. A recent article from USAToday cited a report on the top bed bug-infested cities in the US. Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Detroit, New York and Columbus were listed as the top five cities where pest control companies receive bed bug-related calls.

This does not mean these cities are overrun with bed bugs, but it does underscore the necessity of proactive bed bug control. Looking for signs of their presence can help catch an infestation early before control is too difficult. The most common signs of bed bugs include brown fecal matter, molted skin, and white eggs left behind on furniture or mattresses.

If you suspect you have a bed bug infestation, do not try attempt to remove them on your own. If you are staying in a hotel room, call the management and request a new room immediately. If you believe your home is infested, call a pest professional to treat your home.
