Avoid Bugs and Parasites While Camping
FAIRFAX, Va. (August 8, 2014) – Late summer and early fall are popular times of the year to go camping and hiking and spend time outdoors. While being out in nature can be a great way to relax, caution should be used to prevent painful bites and stings.
We share the outdoors insects that can pose health risks. Mosquitoes and ticks are known for spreading diseases such as West Nile virus and Lyme disease while wasps can cause severe reactions in people with allergies and asthma.
Insect repellent containing at least 20% DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR3535 can help keep away mosquitoes and ticks when applied properly and looking out for stinging insect nests will help avoid provoking them.
