Ants Scope Out Prime Real Estate

FAIRFAX, Va. (October 8, 2013) – Where ants build their nests may not be as random as you think. A recent study at the University of Bristol suggests that ants survey nearby land in case there is an opportunity to upgrade their home.

Ants that were in low quality nests were seen to search more for a new home than those already living in favorable conditions. Similar to many humans, when considering a move, the ants were most attracted to a more open living space.
