Ants March Into Homes

FAIRFAX, Va. (May 4, 2013) – There is one pest that no one wants to encounter, but nearly everyone does in the spring – ants. And, as the weather continues to improve, ants will begin marching one-by-one indoors and causing headaches for homeowners.

According to the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), odorous house ants and pavement ants are the most common home-invading species. These ants are often found in kitchens because they will eat almost anything including fruit, meat and cheese.

Homeowners should pay close attention to signs of a potential ant infestation because — depending on the species — some ants can cause serious health and property threats including costly structural damage and food contamination. If ants are found inside the home, it is important to take action promptly and to consider contacting a pest professional to help treat an infestation.
