A New Threat From Mosquitoes - Dengue Fever

FAIRFAX, Va. (November 17, 2013) – Dengue fever is a disease unknown to the majority of Americans. This mosquito-borne disease is prevalent in tropical areas of the world, and cases in the U.S. have only been seen in immigrants or tourists – until now.

The species of mosquito that is known to carry Dengue fever has been found in Arizona and Florida, but infections have only been reported in Florida. Thankfully, Dengue-carrying mosquitoes can be prevented with the same techniques that prevent all mosquitoes – proper use of repellent and the elimination of areas of standing water.
