NPMA on "The Today Show" with Bed Bug Tips

If you tuned into "The Today Show" this morning, you were probably itching away at the breakfast table. That's because the National Pest Management Association's Missy Henriksen joined Natalie Morales to share our bed bug knowledge and prevention tips with viewers across the county.

With bed bugs being reported in homes, hotels and retail stores alike, Missy shared some important prevention tips for homeowners, travelers and shoppers:

Bed Bug Tips for Retail Stores

• Be aware of any stains that seem unusual
• Inspect clothing carefully before purchasing
• Check behind dressing room mirror and wall sockets before trying on clothes
• Inspect shopping bags before brining into house
• Wash all new clothes in hot water & tumble dry on hot heat

Bed Bug Tips for Home & Hotel

• Vacuum suitcases after returning from vacation
• Check your bedsheets for blood spots
• Bring a large plastic bag to keep suitcase in
• Carry a flashlight to assist with quick visual inspections
• Inspect any second-hand furniture before bringing into home
