Tick Population Explosion

Sunday, September 8, 2013

A recent study by the University of Rhode Island shows that the tick population in Rhode Island has exploded in the past three years. Images from 2010 show about one-third of the state rated ‘low’ in terms of the tick population while this year’s image shows virtually the entire state rating ‘high.’

One researcher said the situation has reached “crisis” level due to health risks such as Lyme disease that ticks pose to humans and animals.
