The mosquito-borne disease that just started appearing in the
Americas in late 2013 has arrived in the U.S. Two
Florida citizens have contracted chikungunya from local mosquitoes.
All other diagnosed cases in American citizens were contracted
while traveling to the Caribbean.
Symptoms of chikungunya include joint pain, muscles pain,
headaches and fever. The virus is very rarely fatal. In the U.S.
mosquitoes are also known to spread West Nile virus and Eastern
