Pittsburgh Public Schools officials identified the source of bed
bugs discovered Friday in Beechwood PreK-5 and ensured the school
is clean, a district spokeswoman said Tuesday.
No new cases have been reported, said Ebony Pugh. After a half day
of classes last Friday, the school is on spring break until Monday.
Over the weekend, crews treated the entire building on Rockland
Avenue with an insecticide. Pugh said they did not find any
nests.
The district sent a letter home to parents alerting them, Pugh
said. No parents have called the school to report any new cases,
she said.
Pugh would not identify the source of the bed bugs, but they can
travel in backpacks and coats. According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, they do not spread disease.
