HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA - A low-income apartment complex in
Hempfield Township is reportedly infested with bedbugs for the
second time this year.
The director of the Westmoreland County Housing Authority said
there is at least one confirmed case of the bugs in a unit inside
of the Hempfield Towers apartment complex.
Officials said they are aggressively treating the problem and are
bringing in exterminators to handle the issue. On Friday, all of
the more than 200 apartments will be sprayed by
exterminators.
"I don't think they're in everybody's apartments. Maybe a couple of
people and that's it," resident Bob Casson said. "But they're going
to be spraying all of the apartments."
The director of the Westmoreland County Housing Authority told
Channel 11's Courtney Brennan that they are "aggressively
combating" the problem and will do "whatever they have to" in order
to get rid of the bugs.
Channel 11 News first reported about a bedbug problem in the
Hempfield Towers earlier this year. Officials said only infested
apartments were treated at the time.
