Bed Bugs Found at Philly School
Wednesday, March 7, 2012

A letter went out to parents of students here at Christopher Columbus Charter School in south Philly. The school says bed bugs were found last week. But those parents weren't told until yesterday.

For the second time this year Christopher Columbus Charter School is dealing with some unwanted guests, bed bugs.
School officials didn't want to talk on camera. But we obtained this letter sent to parents. It tells them after a bed bug was found in the cafeteria detector dogs specializing in sniffing out the pests were dispatched over the weekend and signaled there may be more.

While we were there we even saw an exterminator arrive, reportedly to give the school a second opinion. In the meantime the school is still open. In the meantime, parents are taking precautions.

School officials are telling parents it is not necessary to keep kids at home especially with PSSA tests next week.

The state senator for this district Larry Farnese has legislation pending in Harrisburg to give more state oversight to the bed bug epidemic.
