Just because they aren't swarming....

Pest season has gotten off to an intersting start in 2008 with mosquitos and West Nile Virus taking center stage much earlier than in past years. This shift in attention and the lull in termite swarms may have tricked many into believing that termites are not a major issue this year. However, just because termites aren't swarming doesn't mean that these pests are not a problem. In fact, termites may be eating away at the structural stability of your home as you read this blog.

More than just affecting structural dependability, termites can also create significant losses as they can chew through flooring, carpeting and wallpaper in addition to wood. In fact, termites cause $5 billion in propery damage every year. Although social insects, termites are excellent at concealing their presence. So often, termites are only discovered once severe property damage is visible. Regardless of whether you can see swarms or not, spring is the best time for property homeowners to be vigilant and proactively work with a pest professional to prevent/treat infestations.
